Supporters of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure to reveal and dismantle members of a gang allegedly responsible for kidnapping and terrorizing Gachagua’s supporters, with some reportedly going missing without a trace.
Speaking at Murang’a Police Station, where he filed a report and provided CCTV footage of the gang, Samuel Mwangi Kifeti, a staunch political supporter of Rigathi Gachagua, claimed that his life is in danger and that the gang is targeting him.
Kifeti had gone into hiding five days ago out of fear for his safety.
Kifeti stated that the Murang’a police confirmed they had no case against him and had not been searching for him.
Additionally, they had not received any alerts from their national colleagues that he was being sought.
The CCTV footage from a Murang’a hotel shows an unregistered Subaru vehicle arriving at the location, with five hooded and masked men exiting the car.
The men are seen greeting customers inside the hotel and taking out their phones to cross-check customers’ faces against a photo on their devices.
Kifeti revealed that someone outside the hotel alerted him that masked and hooded individuals, believed to be police officers, were searching for him.
He immediately switched off his phone and hid in a car belonging to a Member of Parliament who was also at the hotel.
From his hiding place, Kifeti overheard the gang members indicating that they were tracking his phone, as one of them noted that he had just turned it off, suggesting they were using a device to trace him.
Kifeti is now urging CS Kindiki to reveal the identities of the gang members and dismantle the group, emphasizing that supporters of Rigathi Gachagua have not been fighting President William Ruto but are merely advocating for their rights.
He also accused a Murang’a politician of feeding the government false information about Gachagua’s supporters, using government resources to fight personal battles against those who do not support the politician.
