President William Ruto has given his commitment to national unity in an effort to ensure inclusive prosperity for all.
The President said his decision to form a broad-based government is aimed at rallying Kenyans from across all sections of society behind the country’s transformation agenda.
Speaking during an inspection tour of development programmes in Tharaka Nithi County on Thursday, the President said the all-inclusive government would leave no one behind.
He pointed out that development would be elusive if there was no unity and teamwork among Kenyans.
“Because of the challenges facing us, I have decided to form a broad-based government that brings all regions on board,” said the President in Marimanti town.
He was accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, MPs and MCAs.
President Ruto called on Kenyans to shun actions that could destroy the country and derail its development agenda.
He cautioned Kenyans against violence, destruction of property, looting and acts that lead to loss of lives.
“We do not have another country. We only have this one. If you ruin this one, we will have nowhere to go,” he said.
President Ruto said the government is focused on rolling out programmes that will transform the lives of Kenyans and take the country to the next level.
He explained that the government is rolling out the Universal Health Coverage programme to make it easier for Kenyans to access quality and affordable healthcare.
“The Universal Health Coverage that we have been discussing for many years is being implemented. We have changed the law and have four pieces of legislation to ensure it becomes a reality,” the President said.
He noted that the construction and equipping of Kenya Medical Training Colleges across the country will enhance the capacity of health workers and strengthen the implementation of Universal Health Coverage.
President Ruto pointed out that the government’s Affordable Housing Programme has created 160,000 jobs for youth, saying the plan is to scale up the projects and create more jobs.
He said the government is building 400 fresh produce markets across Kenya, adding that in Tharaka Nithi County, they will be constructed at Marimanti, Ciakariga and Gaatunga to ensure traders have decent working spaces.
On his part, Mr Gachagua said the government is committed to transforming the county, which he noted has lagged behind.
He said they will support President Ruto to realise the country’s development agenda.
At Marimanti, President Ruto commissioned the Kibung’a Kakimiki Water Project that will serve more than 30,000 people.
He also launched a KSh 500 million last-mile electricity connectivity project and commissioned a Huduma Centre and launched the Marimanti Kenya Medical Training College.
Later, he commissioned the County Commissioner’s Office and Huduma Centre at Kathwana.
He launched Huduma Centre and CDF offices in Maara, and inspected and handed over medical equipment to Natasha Makena Munene Memorial Hospital in Kibugua.
