Championing for Road safety through Training

Stakeholders in driving school sector are in the fore front campaigning for road safety because of the recklessness being exuded on the roads by motorists and drivers .

Speaking during the opening of Topride driving school the second branch in Mombasa road, it’s Chairman Mr Richard Boro noted that, the statistics are terrible.

The country is losing more than 4000 people per annum because of road accidents. And then five times that number actually 20,000 People are now getting life changing injuries.

Citing that these accidents are preventable but due to lack of proper training the accidents keep increasing.

National Transport and Safety Authority NTSA has been challenged to ensure that drivers go for refresher training before their licenses are renewed.

They need to ensure a driver has full knowledge of the rules of the road because it’s all about making the road safer.

Over the years Kenyan roads have been upgraded.

Currently the country has bypasses interchanges, road links, expressways roads that didn’t exist 10 years ago.So there is an urgent need for drivers even those who have driven for the last 10 years 20 years to go for refresher training, because the highway code changes with each new highway, expressway , bypass and new road link.

According to Caroline Kamicha Co- Founder & Director, Topride, driving schools should give students ample time to understand road safety rules while driving schools incorporate 13 to 20 lessons, she has been championing for at least 35 lessons.

In her efforts to champion for professionalism and road safety she has been visiting secondary schools, mentoring over 4000 students in secondary schools from Nairobi, on the importance of road safety.

She has also encouraged male drivers to be courteous while on the roads as the majority of them harass female drivers, who are always careful while driving.

Drivers and motorists have been urged to be careful while on the roads .

The government has also been encouraged to put measures in place that ensures road offenders are punished.
