Defending champions Faith Kipyegon and Emmanuel Korir are among the 170 athletes invited for the Olympic Games trials set for Nyayo Stadium between the 14th and 15th of this month.
Kipyegon, who will be defending her Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games title in 1500m, will also compete in the 5000m trials aiming to double.
In the 12.5-lap race, the double Olympic champion will face stiff competition from two-time world cross-country champion Beatrice Chebet, who will also target to double after punching her 10,000-meter ticket.
Korir, who is yet to hit form this season, will be out to defend the 800m title he won in Tokyo three years ago but will battle first at the trials against World silver medalist Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who has been on blistering form, and Olympic silver medalist Ferguson Cheruiyot, among others.
Athletics Kenya has clarified that only athletes who have complied with the Athletes Integrity unit of partaking one out of competition test between 4th September last year and 3rd May this year and having attained the qualification standards outlined by World Athletics have been invited for the two day trials.
In order to help the Kenyan relay team qualify for the Olympic Games, AK has also invited athletes from Ghana and Botswana.
Kenyan athletes bagged 10 medals in the Tokyo Olympic Games: 4 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
