President William Ruto is set to open the 5th edition of the Global Peace Leadership Conference (GPLC) which will take place in Nairobi from 25th to 27th June 2024.

More than 600 delegates from 25 countries are expected to attend the event which brings together policymakers, government officials, educators and faith leaders to exchange views and identify measures for sustainable peacebuilding and development.

While addressing members of the press during a media event held in Nairobi on 7th June 2024, Global Peace Foundation Kenya Executive Director Daniel Juma said “the conference will explore and discuss ways to promote peace, development and cooperation in the African context in the spirit of ‘Ubuntu’, in a bid to increase social cohesion, interfaith harmony and partnerships for development”.

This is the second time Nairobi is hosting the meeting after Kenya was picked to host the 2010 convention in the aftermath of the 2007/8 post-election violence.

Bishop Dr. John Warari, Chair of the GPLC 2024, noted that this year’s event themed, ‘One Family Under God: Empowering African Renaissance As A Global Catalyst For Freedom, Peace And Sustainable Development’, will recognize and celebrate the richness and diversity of Africa’s cultures, traditions and contributions to global civilization, in a bid to foster a sense of pride and self-worth among Africans.

“The GPLC 2024 will provide a platform for emerging and established African leaders including the youth to share experiences, best practices, and innovative solutions, enabling them to address pressing challenges on the continent around peace and sustainable development while contributing to the continent’s progress”, said Warari.
