Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani has called on youth from the county to be law-abiding and peace ambassadors in an area that is a hub for tourism investments and attractions that for long have served as a source of income to the locals.

The sentiments by the county chief came after countrywide demonstrations that led to deaths and destruction of properties in the wake of the passage of the contentious Finance Bill 2024/2025 by the Members of the National Assembly

The protests also saw massive destruction of properties, looting of businesses, and injuries to the locals in Diani, Kwale county, by suspected criminal gangs who took advantage of the protesting youths.

Addressing community company directors at Diani Forest Lodge, Kwale Governor cautioned the youths against acts of criminality saying they negatively impact the economy of the area that is largely dependent on the tourism sector.

“We need to be fair to our President because he has withdrawn the bill in totality. Let’s give him time to put everything in order,” Achani Said

Achani further urged the youth not to be used by selfish politicians who want to take advantage of the situation and cause instability in the Country

“Fellow youth, this country cannot be built through violence. Let’s embrace dialogue and talking to each other this is the only way we can move the nation forward,” she said

At the same time, the Governor asked security agencies in the County to stand guard and thwart activities of criminal gangs operating in Diani that have reigned terror to the locals and visitors.
