Over the years, Kenya’s film industry has seen significant growth with increased investment from international streamers like Netflix, Prime Video and African giant Showmax which has resulted in an improvement in the country’s film production quality.

Some original programmes produced in Kenya over the last two years include “Country Queen” (Netflix), “Pepeta”, “Single Kiasi”, “Crime & Justice” and “County 49” (Showmax).

This growth is also reflected in the success of Kenyan films at international film festivals, bringing global attention to the rich narratives emerging from the country.

In her latest post, Kate reflects on her journey and the evolution of Kenya’s creative industry.

She also shared an inspirational message with aspiring actors emphasising the importance of perseverance and dreaming big.

“For the longest time, acting was considered a co-curricular activity or a hobby, not a career here in Kenya.

“Fortunately, the narrative has now changed, and I am honoured to have been part of this tremendous progress in our industry.

“Dear young actor/thespian, we lit the tunnel when we couldn’t see or find the light, you can take it from here, the world is your oyster,” she said.
