Kenyans will officially begin their medal hunt tonight at the Paris Olympics with the 5,000m and 800m women finals.

Two-time Olympic champion over the 1500m Faith Kipyegon will lead Kenyans in the 5,000m final from 10:15pm.

Other Kenyan competitors include the 10,000m world record holder Beatrice Chebet and Margaret Chelimo.

Kipyegon will aim to attain her last year world championship feat where she won both 1500m and 5,000m.

However, the Kenyan trio will face stiff competition from the defending champion Sifan Hassan of Netherlands and World record holder Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia.

Kenya is chasing its 2nd Olympic title in the event, since Vivian Cheruiyot won the 1st gold medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Later tonight, reigning World Champion Mary Moraa will be keen to end Kenya’s 16 year gold dry spell in 800m final at 10:47pm.

Pamela Jelimo is the sole Olympic champion in the 800m, which she ran at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Moraa will face an uphill task from British Keely Hodgkingson, who is ranked the 1st in the world, South African Prudence Sekgodiso, American Juliette Whittaker and Ethiopia duo of Siye Duguma and Worknesh Mesele.

World bronze medalist in 3,000m steeplechase Abraham Kibiwott, former world U 20 champion Amos Serem and Simon Koech will compete in the heats from 8:04pm.

Kenya lost the 3,000 MSC gold to Morocco’s Sofiane El Bakkali in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics for the first time.
