A section of Gusii region legislators have called on President William Ruto to expedite the process of dialogue with Gen Z protestors in order to quell the demonstrations witnessed across the country.
The legislators who included Senators Richard Onyonka of Kisii County, Okong’o Omogeni of Nyamira County, Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kebagendi and Nyaribari Masaba’s Daniel Manduku said the youths have a right to picket.
The leaders also urged the president to fix the pertinent issues raised by the youths besides reining in on leaders who continue to display a lifestyle of opulence in public.
They made the remarks during a funeral service of a businessman Peter Bogonko at Nyakoe in Kitutu Chache South constituency.
The legislators also called for the military’s withdrawal from the streets, noting that protestors armed only with phones should not face violence.
“Those kids have no guns, they only have their phones. All individuals killed during the protests should be accorded a state funeral, with the national flag flown at half-mast to honor their lives,” said Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka
Additionally, the leaders criticised MPs for disregarding public concerns and stating that Parliament should be dissolved to seek a fresh electoral mandate, alongside a reconstitution of the cabinet.
