The ongoing push by young Kenyans for reforms in the country has the blessings of a majority of Kenyans. A new poll by Tifa Research has found.
The firm indicated that findings from its latest opinion poll show backing by 81% of Kenyans. The poll further suggests that the support for the Gen-Z movement transcends political affiliations, indicating a broad-based agreement on the importance of the issues raised by them.
The poll, particularly, showed huge support for a number of issues the young Kenyans have been agitating for.
“Cutting down government spending (austerity measures) is the primary demand from Gen-Z demonstrations that most Kenyans support,”
“The widespread support for austerity measures among Kenyans indicates a shared concern over government expenditure and economic management,” the agency noted in its findings
At the same time, the survey findings highlight a significant preference for digital activism over physical demonstrations among those supporting the Gen-Z movement.
“The majority of respondents reported no involvement in either physical or online protests. Among those who did participate, most engaged in protests primarily through social media,” noted Tifa
The decision by President William Ruto to announce the dissolution of his cabinet was received well by millions of Kenyans with a majority of the support linked to Kenyans affiliated with the ruling Kenya Kwanza alliance.
The company says a high number of those who favoured removal of almost the entirety of cabinet at 67% reflects a widespread desire for governmental change and reform.
“The strong support for cabinet dissolution among Kenya Kwanza affiliates suggests a perceived disconnect between the cabinet’s actions and the expectations of their political supporters,” the firm said
On the fate of Cabinet Secretaries who were shown the door, slightly above half of Kenyans state that none of the Cabinet Secretaries should have been retained.
Tifa says there is a general consensus against retaining any Cabinet Secretaries indicating a widespread desire for comprehensive governmental change and new leadership.
