Bishop John Mpurkoi of PAG Churches in Narok County has expressed concern over the suffering of ordinary citizens seeking critical services in public health facilities in the wake of the doctors’ strike.

Speaking in Narok, Mpurkoi challenged the government to do whatever it takes to resolve the crisis that is in its third week.

He says it’s not good for the government to engage in unnecessary supremacy battles with the medics but instead engage them with a view to ending the industrial action that has led to the deaths of innocent Kenyans who cannot be treated.

The Bishop said it was unfortunate that demands by other civil servants were hardly taken into consideration yet MPs were constantly enjoying pay hikes.

The man of God spoke even as the President made it clear it would be impossible to meet doctors’ salary demands due to lack of funds.

Speaking in Eldoret on Sunday at a church service, President William Ruto told the doctors to understand that there is a limit to what the government can spend on their salaries and allowances.

Saying the government values the work doctors and interns play in the health sector, the President pointed out that the country cannot continue to live beyond its means.
