Kenyans from all walks of life thronged to Lang’ata cemetery to honour the life of media personality and Reggae MC Mary Njambi Koikai who died on June 3.
Her burial comes a day after friends and family gathered to honour her at a memorial service at the Nairobi Chapel Ngong Road.
Among those who paid tribute was Senator Gloria Orwoba who praised Njambi for her bravery and endurance.
“Even in death, her legacy lives on and that is the one thing I want to take with me. I want when God calls me people can come and say this is what this person did,” Ms Orwoba said. “Everybody knows what Njambi did from the reggae community to the women and girls and I truly want to celebrate her.”
Celebrities, fellow media personalities and government officials also attended the funeral.
Comedian Jacky Vike who was at the funeral said she takes comfort in the fact that Njambi is now resting.
“The thing that gives me hope and consoles me is the fact that at least she is resting.
“No more pain like she battled for her life. I am going to miss her but let her rest,” said Ms Vike.
Njambi had been living with thoracic endometriosis, a condition in which tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus, the endometrium, grows outside the uterus since she was a teenager.
Ms Koikai only revealed her condition to the public in 2018, as she sought to bring awareness to the disease.
Other celebrities in attendance included Talia Oyando, Larry Madowo, Larry Asego, Mbusii, Bernard Ndong, Njugush, Celestine Ndinda, Eddie Butita, Ciku Muiriri, Kris Darling, Senator Gloria Orwaba, Radio Jambo’s Lion Deh, Super Marcus, MC Gogo, Comedian Osoro among others.
