EACC probes alleged grabbing of Ksh400M public land in Karen

The 5 acre land belongs to Nairobi County Government

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating the alleged fraudulent acquisition of public property situated in Karen, Nairobi.

The land,  Parcel No. LR No. 12037 measuring 5.12 acres, belonging to Nairobi County Government, is in the hands of private developers who are demanding Ksh1.28 Billion compensation from the County Government.

According to EACC Deputy CEO Abdi Mohamud, the land worth Ksh400M was reserved for sewerage works and staff housing and is still being used by the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Co. as a sewerage pond.

In its investigations, the Commission seeks to establish the alleged fraud in the transfer of the parcel of land to Davjon with a view to averting the loss of public funds being the proposed Ksh 1.28 billion in illegal compensation sought by the private developer.

“We want to find out how that property was allocated to a private developer. We also want to be enjoined in an ongoing court suit to recover the property for the public. We are investigating the matter and once we are done, we will take necessary action against individuals who have taken the property” Mohamud told journalists.

The private developer is believed to have hatched the fraudulent scheme in cahoots with senior officials of the County Government and Ministry of Lands currently under investigation.
