Police in Rumuruti, Laikipia West, are holding 10 illegal immigrants of Eritrean origin after a multi-agency security team intercepted two vehicles transporting them in the Sipili area.
The individuals are being detained at Rumuruti Police Station, even as it emerged some police officers have been aiding illegal immigrants.
Acting on a tip-off, the security team launched an operation that resulted in the arrest of two officers for their involvement in facilitating the trafficking.
The officers traced a Toyota Voxy and a Nissan Vanette, which were used to transport the aliens, and found them packed in a nearby bush within the Sipili area.
One of the vehicles was found with two occupants a police officer P.C Onduso of Sipili Police Station and a driver who escaped after sporting the police vehicle.
The Voxy was being driven by another officer identified as Wilson Nderitu of Ol-moran Police Station.
“The same was trailed and found packed in a nearby bush within Sipili area with two occupants one being a police officer P.C Onduso of Sipili Police station and a suspected driver who escaped upon noticing police Motor Vehicle” reads a police report from Rumuruti.
It adds “Also a Motor Vehicle KBX 580U Make Toyota voxy being driven by CPL Wilson Nderitu of Ol-moran Police station was intercepted. Upon conducting a search ten Aliens of Eriteria origin were found. All arrested and the two Motor Vehicle detained at Rumuruti police station”.
