Waititu among notable graft suspects expected in court this week

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinard Waititu and Ibrae Doko Yattani, a nephew to former Treasury Cabinet Secretary and Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani are among notable suspects expected in the Anti-Corruption Court this week over cases connected to the theft of public funds.

Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari Ndung’u alongside others are charged with conflict of interest, abuse of office, engaging in fraudulent practice, and money laundering.

The allegations relate to the acquisition of a direct private interest in Ksh25.6 million for payments made to Testimony Enterprises Ltd for contracts awarded by the Kiambu County Government.

The matter comes up for hearing this Thursday at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.

Doko Yattani will be in the same court for the mention of his case. An application has been filed for orders to preserve 4,600 pieces of USD 100 denominations (worth Ksh62 million) seized by EACC in his residence during a search operation conducted on 24th April 2024.

Other influential officers whose cases are lined up this week for mention are former EPZ CEO Richard Mutule Kilonzo and NITA boss Paul Kipsang Kosgei. They are changed with abuse of office and fraudulent and unlawful acquisition of public property among others.

According to the EACC schedule, George Mwazighe Mwandembo, head of Procurement at NSSF and 3 others will also be in court for the mention of their case in which they are charged with conflict of interest, fraudulent practice in procurement, and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
