A special sitting of the House will be held this afternoon during which the Select Committee investigating the proposed dismissal of Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi will present its report.

The embattled CS will know his fate when the 11-member select committee that retreated last Friday to write its report will make known its decision.

This is after the National Assembly voted to impeach the CS over the sale of fake fertilizer through a special motion which was moved by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka

In a notice on May 6, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula stated that the sitting will take place on Monday, May 13 at 2.30 PM to consider the report by the committee.

“Pursuant to the provisions of Article 152(7) of the Constitution and Standing Order 66(5)(b), the Select Committee ought to report back to the House, within ten days, on whether the allegations against the Cabinet Secretary are substantiated,” said Wetang’ula.

Pursuant to Article 152(10) of the Constitution, a resolution requiring the President to dismiss a Cabinet Secretary must be supported by a majority of the Members of the National Assembly which is 175 Members.

Linturi is the first CS to face the impeachment axe, if ousted, he can appeal in court.

The MPs will also consider senate amendments to the Division of Revenue Bill and the report of the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning on the ratification of the Multilateral Convention to implement Tax Treaty-related measures.

Other issues include, Senate Amendments to the Division of Revenue Bill and the Third Reading of the National Disaster Risk Management Bill.

The National Assembly proceeded for a long recess on May 2, 2024 and is set to resume regular sittings on Tuesday, June 4.
