The Deputy Army Commander, Major General David Tarus led Langa’ta Barracks personnel in a tree planting exercise within the camp.
The exercise was conducted in conjunction with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) which is part of KDF’s Environmental Soldier Programme (ESP) of protecting the environment.
Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) through its Environmental Soldier Program has enabled soldiers to be at the frontline on matters of environmental security by planting trees which is in line with the National Tree Planting Campaign of planting 10 billion trees by 2032.
Major General Tarus expressed his appreciation to the KDF fraternity for being in the lead on matters of conserving the environment and thanked KFS for their continued efforts towards actualising environmental security through tree planting exercises.
He pledged that the soldiers will take care of the planted trees in order to ensure their survival. He also challenged the soldiers to not only grow trees in military establishments but also in their own residences.
The exercise was successfully conducted with over 2,000 tree seedlings of various indigenous species among them pine, cypress and croton among others.
