The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is set to launch an audit of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) on Thursday to seal graft loopholes.

In a statement, the commission said it seeks to identify and expose systemic loopholes and weaknesses conducive to corruption and unethical practices.

“The findings of the audit exercise will guide various reform actions, including addressing current accountability deficits in the management of public resources under the care and control of NHIF,” the statement read in part.

The commission said the audit exercise which will be launched at the NHIF Boardroom is part of its strategies to curb corruption and does not in any way prejudice the ongoing investigations at the state agency.

EACC is a mandated to undertake system reviews in public bodies either on its own motion or at the invitation of the concerned entity.

NHIF is currently facing probe by the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Health over alleged fraud at the agency.
