The Mandera County Government has disbursed the third round of bursary fees for all secondary schools in the region.

A total of 61 public secondary schools in Mandera are set to benefit from Ksh 74 million in bursary funds.

A significant sum of Ksh 9,150,000 has already been disbursed to cover the costs of the last two academic terms.

This funding initiative was launched on January 16, 2023, to provide relief to parents affected by the prolonged drought in the area.

According to the County Executive Committee Member for Education, Bashir Ibrahim Alio, the county will also subsidize fees for certain students studying at Turkish universities and the Mandera Technical Training Institute.

The County Education Department plans to implement a similar scholarship program for another 30 students in various universities in Turkey.

The education leader in the county commended the significant increase in enrollment at the Mandera Technical Training Institute and TVET institutions, with the number of students rising to 815 within two terms.

The CEC for Education instructed the County Bursary Board to release all funds for the ongoing third term.

Mandera parents are relieved as their children in secondary schools can now study for free, thanks to the county government’s commitment to covering their fees for the next four years.

Principals from all secondary schools expressed their gratitude for the initiative and urged parents to enroll their children in schools.

Another Ksh 460 million bursary fund will be launched next month to support students in secondary, tertiary, colleges, and universities in the coming financial year.
