Nairobi County boosts Standard Chartered Marathon kitty with Ksh. 8 Million donation

Nairobi City County Executive for Talent, Skills Development and Care, Rosemary Kariuki presented Ksh 8M as part of Nairobi City County Governments’ sponsorship towards the 20th Edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon.

The donation from city takes Standard Chartered Marathon raises money received through sponsorship to over Ksh. 178 million.

The amount included support from over 38 partners, enabling a more vibrant marathon experience for participants.

More than 270,000 runners have participated in the Marathon and over Ksh. 750 million raised to support various impact initiatives over the years.

“We are extremely happy to be part of the sponsors of the 20th edition. I am excited for Standard Chartered Bank to have raised KES. 178 million towards this noble cause,” said Ms Kariuki, who was accompanied by the County Executive for Inclusivity, Public Participation and Public Engagement, Dr Anastasia Nyalita,

Governor Johnson Sakaja’s manifesto advocates for sports as a way of nurturing talent and a platform to ensure Nairobi youth earn an honest living and keep away from crime. We will continue supporting this important event by continuing to provide waivers.”

Nairobi City County Government recently signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Standard Chartered Bank Limited on environment, education, and entrepreneurship initiatives.

Said Dr Nyalita, “Some of the activities to be undertaken under the MoU include tree planting, medical camps, employability- targeting University and County TVET colleges.”

The partnership also seeks to involve sharing of information and best practices with a focus on awareness creation and community engagement.

The marathon is set to take place on the 29th of October.
