Uneasy calm in Baringo as bandits stage another attack in Ng’aratuko village

Security personnel in Baringo north are in hot pursuit of bandits who raided Ng’aratuko village Tuesday morning making away with unknown number of livestock.

The mid-morning incident happened just 100 meters from Ng’aratuko primary school where class eight and grade six candidates were sitting for the national examinations.

One person sustained gunshot wounds during the raid with Kneya Police Reservists succeeding in repulsing the raiders as police rushed to the area to offer reinforcement.

The raid happened as interior security Cabinet Secretary met security teams in Loruk some 20 kilometers away from the scene of the latest attack.

The meeting with Rift Valley Regional and Baringo County Security and Intelligence Committees is seeking seek to draw up a plan on how to engage bandits who have been wreaking havoc in the area.

Kindiki’s visit to the bandit prone region came in the wake of an attack by suspected bandits targeting security officers (GSU) who were on a routine patrol a week ago.

The raiders had also attacked a school in Kapindasum village located near the camp before engaging security officers in a shootout. The heavily armed bandits had surrounded the GSU camp from around 10 am with panic gripping.
