The Senate County Public Accounts Committee has established that 108 million of taxpayers Monies were stolen in Lamu County.
While considering the Reports of the Auditor General for 2020/21 financial year, it further emerged that two Rogue Officers from the devolved unit stole two receipts books of the county and according to the County Government the two unmanned officers contracts were terminated.
Lamu County Governor Issa Timamy was at pains before the committee to explain how the funds generated from the own source Revenue could not be substantiated.
The Auditor General stated that there were cases of business permits with same serial number indicating that parallel permits were being used and hence pilferage of revenue.
In the circumstances, the Auditor General established that the accuracy, completeness and propriety of own generated revenue amount of Kshs. 108,433,650 could not be confirmed.
Further, is was also established that the County has further lost Ksh. 45 million this year, a conditional grant from the Kenya devolution support program after receiving adverse opinion from Auditor.
