Former Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Arthur Maangi

The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee has begun conducting vetting of ambassadorial nominees with the former Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Arthur Maangi appearing second before the departmental committee.

Maingi who is seeking the Kampala, Uganda ambassadorial position is second to appear before the committee after Catherine Kirumba Karemu, the ambassadorial nominee for London, United Kingdom.

However, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission EACC has sent a recommendation to the committee raising concerns over the suitability of the Former Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Arthur Maangi.

The Anti graft body says there is an active investigation ongoing against the DG in regards to a National Housing project.

The file was sent to the DPP but the Country’s prosecutor returned the file back to the commission for further investigation.

The Committee Chair Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Korir has ruled that the nominee can appear and present his submission before the departmental committee because there are no charges yet preferred against the Former DG.

He says it will be up to the committee and parliament to decide if he is suitable for the Kampala role once they consider the matter.
