Indonesians in Kenya mark Eid-Al-Fitr celebration

The Indonesian community in Kenya gathered at the Indonesian Ambassador’s residence in Nairobi to mark the commemoration of Eid-Al-Fitr on Wednesday 10th April, 2024.

The annual occasion marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, a 30 day period of fasting, prayer, alms-giving and pilgrimage.

In his remarks while addressing the attendees, Indonesian ambassador to Kenya Dr. Mohamad Hery Saripudin said, “Eid al-Fitr is a moment that is greatly missed by Muslims, a day full of happiness and gratitude, as well as an event of friendship to forgive and apologize to each other”

He urged Muslims to continue the tradition of staying in touch and strengthen ties with family and friends during this period.

The event was also attended by various Kenyan government officials, business people and members of the diplomatic corps.

The Embassy has planned a series of activities which will run until 15th April 2024 to mark the Eid festival.

As the world’s 2nd most populous Islamic country, the East Asian state is a key trade partner for Kenya with 2024 marking 45 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Nairobi and Jakarta.

During a recent State Visit to Kenya by the outgoing Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Kenyan President William Ruto called for increased cooperation between the two countries, particularly through trade in the textiles and apparel, energy, mining, oil production and refining sectors.

Indonesia is also experiencing a tourism boom with revenues from the industry expected to hit Ksh. 1.2 trillion in 2024.
