Police FC draw with AFC Leopards in replay to seal MozzartBet Cup final slot

Kenya Police FC will meet KCB FC in the final of MozzartBet Cup after they registred a 1-0 win against AFC Leopards in their semi final encounter at Police Sacco Stadium,Nairobi.

Police Fc and AFC Leopards semi final replay on Monday ended 0-0. The match had been abandoned on Sunday at the 61st minute with Police Fc leading 1-0 courtesy of Tito Okello’s header.

According to regulations governing the Cup competition,Football Kenya  Federation Leagues and Competitions Committee ruled the match be replayed for 30 minutes.

Articles 5.1 and 5.2 of the FKF Mozzart Bet Cup regulations, which state:

5.1 If a match cannot start or cannot be played in full, or remaining match time, as a rule, the match shall be played and/or concluded on the next day, without prejudice to any possible disciplinary measures.

5.2 In case a match is abandoned, and the Organizing Committee decides a continuation of play, the match shall recommence with the same score at the minute at which play was interrupted. For avoidance of doubt, the Organizing Committee may decide a full replay of the match that was abandoned.

The match was stopped after a second assistant referee sustained an injury after an object from the crowd hit him.

During the replay on Monday both teams created notable chances with Brian Okoth’s effort being ruled offside while AFC Leopards Arthur Gitego saw his shot go inches wide with goalkeeper to beat.

Following the win Kenya Police FC will face KCB FC in the final. KCB beat Kariobangi Sharks 4-2 via post match penalties after both sides had settled for 1-1 draw in regular time.

Kenya Police FC Head coach Salim Babu said AFC Leopards gave it all in the last 30 minutes but praised his charges for achieving the result.

‘’We had scored early on Sunday so we the team had to know that they had to put in their all which they did,AFC Leopards played well they piled pressure but we got the job done’’, Salim remarked.

He stated the teams desire to clinch the Cup.’’ We want to win the Cup and that’s our target the match against KCB wont be easy’’, he added.

Kenneth Muguna was named the man of the match. ‘’We are taking it each game at a time.we are hopeful of winning the final’’,Muguna said in a post match interview.
