The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Homicide Directorate has assumed control of the investigation into the brutal murder of 44-year-old Rael Cherop Biwott, whose dismembered body parts were discovered in various locations across Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties on June 24 and June 27, 2024.

Biwott, a mother of four, was reported missing by her husband, Francis Mwangi Ndirangu, 24 hours after she left her workplace on June 22.

She was a Senior Accountant Assistant in the billing section at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Ndirangu, the prime suspect in the heinous crime, claimed that Biwott went missing after they had breakfast together on June 23.

However, this statement was contradicted by testimonies from their children and a co-accused.

Homicide detectives, working alongside their Kapseret counterparts, have established that Biwott left her workplace shortly before 7 PM on June 22, accompanied by her husband.

Contrary to Ndirangu’s claim that they took a matatu home, CCTV footage confirmed they left in a Toyota Succeed rented by Ndirangu.

Biwott never arrived home.

The first discovery of Biwott’s dismembered body parts was made around noon on June 24, when they were found stashed in a gunny bag beside a road in Kapsilegaa village, Nandi County.

Later that day, her head and upper limbs were discovered beside a road in Lamaiywet village, Uasin Gishu County.

It was only after this discovery that Ndirangu reported her missing at Eldoret Police Station at 6:40 PM.

On June 27, Biwott’s remaining body parts, including her legs and internal organs, were found in a clear polythene bag beside a road in Mutwot village, Nandi County.

An autopsy conducted in the presence of Ndirangu, family members, and two advocates revealed that Biwott had suffered severe neck injuries and blunt force trauma to the head.

Due to the inconsistencies in Ndirangu’s account and the overwhelming circumstantial evidence implicating him, he was arrested along with a suspected accomplice.

Both have been arraigned, and custodial orders have been granted to allow detectives to complete their investigation.

The case is scheduled for mention at the Eldoret court on July 11, 2024.
