President William Ruto has nominated Douglas Kanja as the new Inspector General of Police.
Kanja was serving as the Acting Inspector General of Police following the resignation of Japhet Koome.
He previously served as the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Commandant of the General Service Unit for five years, and Deputy Commandant of the General Service Unit for three years.
He also held positions as County Police Commander in charge of Kilifi County, Deputy Commandant of the Kenya Airports Police Unit, Chief Armourer at the Police Headquarters, and Deputy Chief Armourer at the Kenya Police Service Headquarters, among other high-level positions.
Consequently, President Ruto has appointed Eliud Lagat and Gilbert Masengeli as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Kenya Police Service and the Administration Police Service, respectively.
Masengeli will serve as the acting Inspector-General of the National Police Service pending consideration of Kanja’s nomination by Parliament.
