Affordable Housing Projects to create 10,000 jobs for youth, women

The recently launched Affordable Housing Projects will create an estimated 6000 direct jobs for the youth and women in construction as well as another 4000 indirectly.

Construction of the 2000 housing units in various parts of the Country has commenced as the Giovernment makes good its promise to deliver decent and affordable housing for all Kenyans.

Pioneer Affordable Housing project in Kapseret Constituency, Uasin Gishu County will deliver 1,506 housing units on the 13 acres piece of land and will come with a kindergarten, a mixed-use commercial development, and a social hall.

Construction of the 18 blocks of apartments will provide an estimated 1500 employment oppoturnities while at the same time engaging the Jua Kali Sector to supply windows, hedges, doors among other locally manufactured items.

The development will also involve the expansion of the sewer and water infrastructure in the already existing network and is expected to be complete by January 2026.

On the other hand Kidiwa Affordable Housing Project in Soy constituency, Uasin Gishu County will deliver 220 housing Units and will provide 500 jobs directly and another over 2000 jobs indirectly.

The units will comprise 60 studio units, 40 one bed-room units, 100 two bed-room units and 20 three bed-room units on the 3.2 acres piece of land.

President Dr William Ruto said the Affordable Housing Program is here to stay saying the numkber of young men working in the sites would be rendered jobless if it were to stop.

He spoke when launched the Nanyuki Affordable Housing Proejct in Laikipia East Constituency Wednesday morning.

The project which sits on 2.5 acres of land will deliver 200 housing units ranging from studio apartments, one bedroom apartments, two bedroom and three bedroom apartments.

The developer in collaboration with TVET colleges, the National Construction Authority (NCA), and the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) will engage Jua Kali artisans in the fabrication of steel casement doors and windows to be used in the project.

The President will be in Nyandarua County on Thursday where he will launch the Nyandarua AHP project.
