ARC Equator Rally postponed

The Equator Rally has been postponed due to the ongoing heavy rains in the Country. The rally scheduled 29-30th June in Naivasha  will now be held at  a date to be announced  later.

A statement shared by Kenya Motorsports Federation,KMSF and Africa Rally Championship announced the postponement had been occasioned by the heavy rains being experienced in the Country and across East Africa region.

‘The recent spate of heavy rains in Kenya, and constant flooding have made it impossible for the event organizers to commence with the planning of the event. Stages are swamped, and it is not possible to drive or access the areas where the rally is planned to take place. Preparations for this event have come to a complete stop’’.

KMSF was forced to notify the world automobile association,FIA on change of dates which was accepted but await communication from the World Motorsport Council on the new dates for the event.

‘’This is indeed an extraordinary circumstance, and force majeure is indeed the right terminology applicable in the current situation’’,the communiqué read.

The Equator Rally is part of the six rounds of the Africa Rally Championship and in the past has been used as a dry run for the WRC Safari Rally.Other legs on the ARC calendar include; Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally,Zambia International Rally,Rally of Tanzania,Rally of Burundi and Mountain Gorilla Rally in Rwanda.

Karan Patel and his partner Tauseef Khan are the reigning Africa Rally Champions after winning the series in a Ford Fiesta Rally 2 car.
