Azimio leaders reiterate need to lower ‘unmanageable’ cost of living

Political leaders drawn from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance are threatening not to append their signatures on a report to be produced by the Bi-Partisan Talks Committee if the issue of cost of living is left out.

Led by Azimio principal Kalonzo Musyoka the group said the recently-concluded talks that brought together members of the ruling party and their opposition counterparts, were, among other things, premised on addressing the cost of living that has become “unmanageable,”

“Kenyans have said if we do not address the cost of living, there will be no deal. This is very important and this is our stand,” said Kalonzo

The Wiper leader reiterated; “If there is a document to append our signatures, we won’t sign if it doesn’t meet the expectations of the Kenyan people. And it cannot go to Parliament if we don’t sign,”

Kalonzo and a host of leaders in his company, including DAP-Kenya’s Eugene Wamalwa and ODM Deputy Leader Wycliffe Oparanya, insist the opposition’s priority in the dialogue was the skyrocketing prices of goods.

“Unless we deal with the cost of living, and lower the cost of fuel, electricity, sugar, and others, we have no deal,” said Wamalwa

“I am glad that our representatives in that committee have been categorical on the issue of cost of living. That was our major concern,” added Oparanya

The leaders were in Luanda, Vihiga County at the invitation of area Senator Geoffrey Osotsi
