National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has expressed his commitment to protecting the place of the Church in societal norms.
Speaking during an Episcopal Ordination service of Bishops Elect Simon Peter Kamomoe and Wallace Ng’ang’a Saturday at St. Mary’s Msongari Grounds, Nairobi, Wetang’ula urged Christian faithful to follow the way of Jesus Christ in ensuring that the Church is the guiding institution in social values in society.
“I salute you the Clergy for continuing to play the moral barometer of our country. The moral rectitude of our society. I have received a plea from your colleagues the Clergy, telling me not to allow legislation that allows eroding and perverting of our society”, noted Speaker Wetang’ula.
Speaker Wetang’ula assured the Church that all legislation must be consistent with respect to culture and norms and therefore be in line with Christian values.
The Speaker committed to playing a watchdog role on behalf of the church as a Catholic to ensure that the Church is respected.
In his capacity as the Chief Guest representing the President President William Ruto, Speaker Wetang’ula who is also a staunch Catholic Faithful was delighted to congregate among fellow Christians in welcoming the new leadership in the Church.
“We congratulate the new Bishops and encourage them to give selfless service to the Church with courage and determination. This is indeed a great milestone in the Journey of serving the Church”, said the Speaker.
He indicated that President Ruto had extended his hearty regards to the newly ordained clergy saying that the church is the cornerstone of society urging Christians and the Clergy to pray for the country and its leadership to attain solutions to challenges facing the nation.
He also said that President Ruto relayed a message of love, respect and togetherness in building the economy of the country.
“President William Ruto is proud of your achievement in serving the Church. The president respects the Catholic Church and all Churches in this nation and he recognizes their enormous contributions in building the nation in various sectors including Health and Education “, said Speaker Wetang’ula.
During the auspicious occasion presided over by Archbishop Hubertus Van Megen, the Clergy urged the new Bishops to hold onto the Church Ministry with passion while spreading the gospel of Christ with love.

While relating with the gospel of Peter in the bible, he called upon the new Bishops to remain ordinary to continue ‘fishing’ more souls towards Christ.
In his preaching to the congregation, he noted that worldly desires are destructive towards the service of Christ hence encouraging Christians to be cautious in their walks of life.
He said that Jesus lived a simple ordinary life and loved all around him.
“As we gather in prayerful unity, let us recognize the vital role of church leadership in imparting strategic guidance on Christian values within our society”, observed Bishop Hubertus.
Other leaders present called for unity in nation-building as they asked for the Church to persist in praying for the country.
The event attended by a magnitude of Catholic faithful and the Clergy drawn from other denominations brought together diverse leaders among them former President, Uhuru Kenyatta, CJ, Martha Koome, CS Health Susan Nakhumicha, CS Public Service, Moses Kuria, Nairobi County Governor, Johnson Sakaja, Tim Wanyonyi, Beatrice Elachi, Hon. Gabriel Kagombe, Sen. Edwin Sifuna, Secretary to Cabinet, Mercy Wanjau, National Security Advisor to President Ruto, Monica Juma, Former First Lady of Kenya, Mama Ngina Kenyatta among other leaders.
