The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has announced that consultants have joined the ongoing strike.
The consultants who offer specialized services at the Kenyatta National Hospital and offer training at the University of Nairobi are the first to join in the strike with their counterparts from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital set to join them on Friday.
The Union has further directed medical interns not to pick their deployment letters as directed by the government
The Union has maintained that the government is not keen on addressing their concerns hence the move to involve consultants in their push for the implementation of their collective bargaining agreement.
This comes as Patients from Bungoma County are appealing to the government to intervene and end the ongoing strike to avert further suffering.
Several patients seeking services with various conditions were left unattended for several hours.
Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni has urged county governments to meet their end of the bargain and pay community health promoters.
