Information, Communications and Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo on Wednesday launched a Jitume Centre at Igembe Boys High School in Meru County.

The CS noted that the initiative is part of the government’s Digital transformative agenda.

“The Jitume digital centres are part of fulfilment of the charters that H. E. the President, Dr. William RUTO, PhD, CGH and Team Kenya Kwanza  signed with the people of Kenya in consultative forums in every county in the country, ahead of last year’s 9th August General Elections,” Owalo said.

Owalo said the government will be unveiling at least 1,450 Jitume centres across the country in an effort to bring young learners into the digital space.

“The centres train our youth for digitally enabled jobs on the Internet, in line with the Kenya National Digital Masterplan 2022-2032 and  the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” he explained.

The CS was accompanied by Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, Cooperatives PS Kiburi Kilemi, Senate Deputy Speaker Kathuri Murungi, Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri and Meru County MP Karambu Kailemia among other leaders from the region.
