Acclaimed American comedian Dave Chapelle will perform in Nairobi at a sold-out show at the Louis Leakey Auditorium.

The event, which was announced several hours ago, sold out in under three hours on the Punchline Comedy Club’s Instagram page.

Each ticket sold for KSh. 7,000 with the show expected to begin at 8 PM on Wednesday, May 29.

Announcing the sold-out show, Plotline warned that the event would be device-free.

“No cellphones, cameras or recording devices will be allowed at this show.

“Upon arrival, all phones and smart watches will be secured in Yondr pouches that will be unlocked at the end of the show.

“Guests maintain possession of their phones throughout the night, and if needed, may access their phones at designated Yondr unlocking stations in the lobby.

“Anyone caught with a cell phone in the venue will be immediately ejected. We appreciate your cooperation in creating a phone-free viewing experience,” Punchline said.

This, they say, is to prevent unauthorised filming.

Pilot Boy Productions and Dave Chapelle will “own all rights in the content and materials, including any jokes and sketches (the “Materials”), delivered during his performance.”

This won’t be Mr Chapelle’s first time on the continent, he was in Ghana in January. He later shared a documentary showcasing  the “trip of a lifetime.”

He most recently performed at a sold-out show in Abu Dhabi where he said a “genocide” was striking the Gaza strip amid the Israel-Hamas war.

If you missed out on the tickets, Mr Chapelle has three stand-up specials on Netflix available in Kenya, namely The Closer, The Dreamer and Equanimity and The Bird Revelation.
