The death toll from Embakasi gas blast has risen to seven after one more person succumbed to injuries on Tuesday night.
In a statement, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura announced the arrest of Linet Cheruiyot who is a Senior Environmental Officer at the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
The suspect is in police custody and is set to be arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts today for custodial orders.
Cheruiyot’s arrest raises the number of persons held by the police to five, with four other suspects having been presented in court on Tuesday.
The police presented businessman Derrick Kimathi at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi where the State sought twenty-one days to conclude investigations.
Kimathi appeared alongside three officials of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) identified as David Ongare (Director Environment Compliance), Joseph Makau (Head Environmental Impact Assessment), and Mirrian Kioko.
Mwaura said all victims who were sheltered at the Embakasi Social Hall have been reintegrated into the community or provided with alternative accommodation.
“The government’s relief extends beyond immediate shelter needs, focusing also on long-term support for the affected families,” he stated.
