Cabinet Secretary Nominee for Information, Communication and Digital Economy Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u believes the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation boasts numerous resources that can be harnessed to propel the public broadcaster to success.

Dr. Nyambura who was appearing before the Committee on Appointments Friday described KBC as a “public good” that has very good and valuable resources that can be harnessed, not just for its growth but for the development of the country as well.

“Some of the suggestions I put forward is first of all looking at the business case for KBC,” she told the MPs

“What is happening is emerging technologies have come and because of agility in the public sector, it has not been able to move as fast as private media houses,” remarked the CS nominee

One of the things she is eager to do if approved to become the next CS for ICT, is to relook into the positioning of KBC in collaboration with other media houses, especially by exploring avenues to come up with a partnership leveraging on a huge infrastructure at KBC’s disposal.

“It could be one of the ways of ensuring they are sustainable,” she said while responding to a question raised by Samburu West lawmaker Naisula Lesuuda.

According to Naisula who previously worked at KBC both as a reporter and News Anchor “Revamping KBC has been a song every other day and it’s our national broadcaster,”

“What are your thoughts about KBC, its current state and what it should be?” she wanted to know from the ICT CS Nominee

“Moving into the digital space, we may need to ensure that they (KBC) move with times, and start incorporating technologies in their activities,” added the CS nominee in her response to the Samburu West MP.

Dr. Nyambura’s session ended today’s vetting exercise being the 10th session. She holds a Post-Doctorate Fellowship in Innovation Value Chain from Tshwane University of Technology and a PhD in Information Systems from the University of Nairobi having acquired a Master’s degree from the same Institution.
