Floods havoc: Leaders want special funds allocated to rehabilitate schools

Leaders in Tana River County have asked the government to allocate special funds to fund the rehabilitation of schools damaged by floods.

Speaking at Makere primary school, Galole constituency, Galole Member of Parliament Said Hiribae said that it will be difficult to fulfill the president’s call to rebuild schools damaged by floods if an emergency fund is not allocated, as the financial year draws to a close.

In addition, civil society groups in the county have appealed to non-governmental organizations to support the county during this flood,noting that Galole constituency needs approximately Ksh 300 million to rebuild the six affected schools.

More than 16 schools have been affected by the floods as over 3000 lacking a place for learning.
