Ijara Member of Parliament Abdi Ali has committed to nurturing sporting talents within his constituency.

Speaking in Masalani at the Baraza Park football pitch after the finals of the inaugural Sheikhow Super Cup tournament, Abdi noted that he was proud to see talented constituents grow.

“I witnessed a thrilling spectacle of young men showcasing their spectacular football talent. As I extend heartfelt congratulations to the winners, I take pride in the commitment of my office to champion and nurture sporting talent,” Abdi said .

Abdi, who is the tournament’s patron, affirmed that the Sheikhow Super Cup appreciates the passion and competitive spirit displayed by all of the teams involved.

The tournament, which has been running for about a month, involved teams from across Ijara constituency and was divided into two categories: senior and junior categories, where winners from each category took home a Sh100,000 cash prize.

Young Boyz FC secured the Sheikhow Super Cup senior’s title with a thrilling 1-0 victory against Masalani FC.

In the junior division, Sarman FC triumphed over Bula Duale FC on penalty shootouts after a barren 0-0 draw.

“The cash prize not only adds to the glory of their victories but also recognizes the dedication and skill displayed by these exceptional teams in the pursuit of football excellence,” the MP said.

Sports is one of the ways leaders get to interact with young people in constituencies, capitalizing on and growing talents as well as keeping young people away from bad influences that could lead to vices like drug abuse.

It is also a way to offer mentorship to young people in communities.
