It’s too early to engage in 2027 campaigns, President Ruto tells MP Barasa

President William Ruto on Friday asked members of his party, the United Democratic Alliance, to focus their energies on delivering their promises to the electorate.

The Head of State who was in Chwele, Bungoma County, said it was too early to engage in 2027 elections, which were still years away.

The President made the remarks when he introduced Kimilili lawmaker Didmus Baraza while addressing a roadside gathering.

“Huyo muungwana si mnamjua. Sijui anapangapanga nini (You all know this gentleman, I don’t understand what he is trying to do)?,” he said in an apparent reference to political activities by the MP in the county.

Indeed, Baraza has since announced plans to decamp to Ford Kenya from UDA in readiness for the 2027 polls, where he intends to contest the gubernatorial position. And it appears, this has displeased the President, especially considering he is the party leader of the outfit that has sponsored Baraza to the National Assembly.

“Sasa wewe bishop (Didmus Baraza) umeanza kuhuburi na watu hawajafika kanisani. Huyu Didmus amehubiri Ijumaa na kanisa bado ni Sunday. Wewe ngojea kidogo ifike Sunday. (You have started preaching yet people are yet to arrive in church. Didmus is preaching on Friday and the church service is on Sunday).” He said

“(Kindly be patient),” the President urged the lawmaker

Baraza is on record declaring his intention to shift camps citing Ford Kenya’s popularity in the region.

Among other projects, the president commissioned the construction of Kapkara Earth Dam in Sirisia, commissioned the Bungoma Immigration Office, and launched the tarmacking of the Mayanja-Bisunu-Sirisia, Mukhweya-Musese and Mukhweya-Kimukung roads in Kabuchai, during his tour on Friday.

He is in Bungoma County ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations on Saturday.
