Kabaddi: Kenya faces Nepal in semi finals after perfect group run

The Kenya men’s Kabaddi Team is set to face Nepal in the semi final of the ongoing Bangabandhu Kabaddi Tournament in Bangladesh.

The match is set to be played at Shaheed Suhrawardy indoor stadium in Dhaka on Sunday.

Kenya qualified for the semi finals after finishing top of its pool with maximum 10 points from five matches.

Kenya began their group face matches by narrowly edging out Iraq 50-47,then thrashed Sri-Lanka 56-28,defeated Thailand 33-32 then followed it up with 42-29 triumph against Japan then wound up their pool B matches by beating east Africa counterparts and neighbors Uganda 55-16.

Nepal on the other hand finished first runners up in pool A that was won by hosts Bangladesh. Bangladesh topped the pool with 10 points while Nepal finished second,two points adrift.

The other semi final pits hosts and defending champions Bangladesh against  Thailand.

A total of 12 countries are taking part in this year’s tournament ,the fourth edition since inception in 2020.

Kenya has finished  second in the final on two previous occasions and will be out to go one better this time round.

‘’For this year’s tournament it ha been tough,we were put in a tough pool but we managed to win all the matches and we look forward to winning the semi final’’,remarked team captain Daniel Omondi

Team mates Samuel Wafula and James Kamwiti say the tough pool matches have sharpened the squad.

‘’Both teams had experienced and skillful players, it has not been easy but we came out tops and we expect more in the semi final’’Wafula intimated.

‘’The difficult matches have been in the group stages and now we are in the semis there is no going back,we just have to beat our opponent and match to the final’’,Kamwiti avvered.
