As Kenyans online continue to picket, actress Kate Kamau, popularly known as Kate Actress has said she stands with the protesters.

This comes after the actress issued an apology for what she called an “insensitive comment” she made on her Instagram page.

“I want to sincerely apologize (sic) for the insensitive comment I made on my Instagram page.

“After much reflection, I realize that it was a reflex response to the false allegations about my recent trip to the US being government-sponsored.

“I reiterate that it wasn’t. However, I do acknowledge that I should have responded in a more respectful way,” Ms Kamau said.

Ms Kamau is among celebrities like Eddie Butita who have faced the wrath of Kenyans since June 18, after what the protesters called “fence-sitting.”

Young Kenyans have been demonstrating against the Finance Bill 2024 which has been tabled in parliament.

Comedian Mr Butita has since June 19, lost about 200,000 subscribers from his YouTube channel.

Additionally, Kenyans online were beginning to boycott products such as Harpik and Nice & Lovely before Ms Kamau clarified her stand. She is the brand ambassador for both those products.

In her statement, Ms Kamau also reiterated that the Government of Kenya did not sponsor her trip to the US.

The actress had previously shared that she attended at the invitation of the US Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman.

She was among the entourage that accompanied President William Ruto on his state visit in May.

She also attended the luncheon hosted at the Tyler Perry studios in honour of the President’s visit.

Ms Kamau concluded her statement by saying that she was “committed to the betterment of our country.”

“I remain committed to using my platform to advocate for all our fundamental rights as people and will continue to voice my support for the betterment of our country,” she said.

Protests have been planned for Thursday, June 20, in several regions across the country.
