The Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has announced the closure of some key roads rendered impassable by the ongoing heavy rains and floods in various parts of the country.
The North Horr-Kalacha Road has been closed following heavy downpours in Marsabit County and the Ethiopian Highlands.

“The Authority appeals to all motorists and other road users to be patient until the rain subsides” cautioned the Authority in its advisory.
It further said the road will only be opened after a proper assessment and possible reinstatement of any damaged section through the ongoing Routine Maintenance and Spot Improvement Contract recently awarded.
Motorists plying the Nairobi-Garissa Road are also affected by flooding in Mororo area.
“ The Kenya National Highways Authority advises the public of flooding at Mororo area along the Nairobi – Garissa (A3) Road. This is due to the rising water level at the Tana River Bridge caused by ongoing rainfall” KeNHA warned.
The possible overflow of the river could also disrupt movement on the Madogo, Konapunda and Mororo sections of the Garissa road.
“The persisting rainfall portends further water rise which could affect other previously damaged road sections. Motorists are, therefore, urged to exercise caution as they approach Madogo, Konapunda, and Mororo sections of the A3 Road to Garissa” KeNHA stated.
The agency has however assured that it is monitoring the situation to ensure road accessibility adding that a contractor is on standby at the site to address any issues.
This week the Kenya Meteorological Department (MET) issued a heavy rainfall warning across most of Kenya.
