Kenya Rugby Legends boosted ahead of friendly against Uganda

The Kenya Rugby Legends upcoming Legends Cup first leg  encounter against their peers from Uganda has been financially boosted after gaming firm Sportpesa committed Ksh.2Million.

‘The collaboration starting May 2024 gives a nod not only to the successful history of Kenyan rugby, but also consolidates a future where experience converges with talent to inspire and uplift the next generation of rugby stars’, a communique stated.

The Kenyan Legends are set to face off with Uganda on June 8th before the return fixture a week later in Nairobi.

Head Coach Oscar Osir expressed the team’s readiness for the fixture however warning of a vengeful Ugandan side.

“What we should expect this year is a lot of preparation from Uganda and what we can see is that they have gone ahead and beefed up their team. We might have gotten them a bit off guard last year, but I expect they will be ready this time. Nonetheless, we are up to the task as we have been training well for the trip,” he said.

The Kenyan legends won last year’s duel  6-38 away in Uganda before picking a 31-12 victory at home to clinch the 2023 Legends Cup.

The Kenyan squad boasts of Kenya sevens legends  Collins Injera, Lavin Asego, George Mbaye, Oscar Sudi, Moses Mukabane and captain Eddie Omondi.

The team’s financiers SportPesa through its initiative ‘Tujiamini Initiative’ seeks to drive its focus on support from rugby development.
