Kenyans will pay more passports and other key services under the Immigration Department in new levies announced by the government
In a gazette notice dated November 7, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration has been allowed the authority for the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services to revise charges and levies on its services.
Passport fees for ordinary booklets with 34 pages have gone up by Ksh3000 to cost Ksh 7,500, for 50 pages will cost Ksh9,500 up from Ksh 6,000, while fees for booklets with 66 pages will go for Ksh 12,500 instead of Kah7,500. The Diplomatic passport with 50 pages has doubled from Ksh7,500 to Ksh 15,000.
Those seeking to replace either a lost or mutilated passport will pay Ksh 20,000.
The new levies will also impact fees for crucial documents like birth and death certificates whereas replacement/duplication of identity cards will now cost Ksh2000 up from a mere Ksh100 while those not previously registered will pay Ksh 1000.
Those seeking visas, citizenship, permanent residence, and work permits will have to dig deeper into their pockets.
Government and private institutions have not been spared either, they will for the first time be required to pay Ksh500,000 and Ksh1million annual fees respectively. A connection fee of Ksh 50,000 has been introduced.
“IT IS notified for the general inforrnation of the public that pursuant to Regulation 60 of the Public Finance Management (National Government) Regulations, 2015, the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning has granted to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration the authority for the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services to revise charges and levies on its services” reads the gazette notice.
The changes affect the Births and Deaths Registration Act, The Registration of Persons Act and the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act.
Civil servant cards and staff badges will both cost Ksh 1000 from the previous Ksh 100 and Ksh350 respectively.
Immigration visas and other consular fees have been revised to 100 US dollars and 500 US dollars for single and multiple journey visas.
The initial charge was 50 and 100 US dollars for the two.
