The Emergency Locust Response Project (ELRP) and the Food System Resilience Project (FSRP), have initiated countywide livestock vaccination in Mandera.
The initiative is aimed at protecting the livelihoods of pastoral communities and enhancing resilience against frequent disease outbreaks among livestock.
Vetenary officers conducted critical activities including the Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) vaccination, deworming and vector control measures such as spraying livestock to protect against ticks and biting flies.
They also conducted community sensitization by educating the public on prevention measures against zoonotic diseases.
Dr Rashid Ochola mandera west urged the community to participate in vaccinating the animals to reduce prevalence of diseases.
The vaccination drive comes at a time when farmers in the region are recovering from the loss of livestock swept away by the elnino rains.
