A Loitoktok court has sentenced Peter Mungala to 30 years in prison for defiling his 11-year-old daughter.

Mungala was convicted and jailed by Resident Magistrate Nelson Njuguna for the crime committed on December 22, 2023, in Masimba area, Poka location, Kajiado County.

During the trial, the minor testified that her father would visit the house where she lived with her brothers and defile her after their mother left due to a disagreement.

On the day of the offence, Mungala, who lived nearby, took her to his house, undressed, and defiled her, giving her Ksh 20 to buy mandazis afterwards.

The minor reported the incident to her mother, who then reported it to Masimba police station.

Mungala was subsequently arrested, and the girl was taken to a nearby health centre for a medical examination, which confirmed a history of defilement.

Despite pleading not guilty and claiming it was impossible to have defiled the minor as she was supposedly with her mother, the court dismissed Mungala’s defence as an afterthought.

Magistrate Njuguna noted that Mungala never raised this issue earlier during the proceedings.

The court found that the prosecution had proven the case beyond any reasonable doubt, leading to a lengthy sentence. Mungala has 14 days to appeal the sentence.
