Man who allegedly broke into Parliament charged

A man who allegedly broke into Parliament buildings and disabled CCTV cameras a day before protesters stormed in has been charged at Milimani Law Courts.

Kelvin Mwamiri Mangare was arrested with electrical switches stolen from Parliament buildings worth Ksh.2.6 million.

He is said to have gained access to Parliament four times between April 23rd and July 2024.

Mwamiri, who appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe, is alleged to have broken into the basement No. 2 areas of the main Parliament building on April 23, where he stole two CISCO CCTV switches belonging to Maga security Solutions company at around 6:30Pm along Parliament Road.

The suspect was also charged with breaking into Parliament on May 20 at around 6 pm and stealing more CCTV switches from Maga security solution company.

Mwamiri pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a bond of half a million shillings.

On the same breathe, a man has denied two charges of Malicious damage and theft of property belonging to KRA offices Embu town, amounting to Ksh.6 million during the Anti-Finance bill protests on June 24, 2024.

Antony Kiige who appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Joan Otieno pleaded for leniency claiming he is an orphan living with his grandmother.
