Kenya’s Ministry of Health, through the State Department of Public Health and Professional Standards, has made significant strides in addressing malnutrition.

This progress was acknowledged during the recent 14th Taskforce meeting on Food and Nutrition Development.

Notably, the prevalence of stunting among children under five has decreased from 26% to 18% between 2014 and 2022, according to the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey.

Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary for the Department, emphasized Kenya’s strategic alignment with The Africa Agenda 2063 and underscored the importance of comprehensive malnutrition interventions.

Despite challenges, the PS said the Ministry’s multisectoral approach, including the Kenya Nutrition Action Plan, aims to scale up interventions.

Muthoni reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage and called for collective efforts to combat malnutrition for a healthier Kenya by 2030.
