Lawmakers are pushing for the creation of proper policies geared towards promoting entrepreneurship as a key driver of the country’s economic growth.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and his East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) counterpart Maina Karobia averred that the country’s economic stability and future lie on the entrepreneurial investments by Kenyans.
Speaking during the Entrepreneurship Hub Africa 2024 forum at Mount Kenya University (MKU) in Thika, Nyoro said that policies in diverse fields including finances, Technology and Agriculture among others should be prioritized to create a conducive environment for entrepreneurship in the country.
The MP asserted that major economies across the globe including South Korea have grown due to the support given by their governments to entrepreneurs.
He also pointed out that the government should consider helping entrepreneurs grow and expand their ventures by providing them with access to finances. He quipped that notable global brands like Hyundai grew internationally due to the financial support they received from their governments.
The MP also rallied other leaders across the country to endorse the calls noting that leaders’ goal should not be winning elections but providing good governance to the people.
On his part, Karobia called on Kenyan investors and entrepreneurs to take advantage of the East African Community market to grow their ventures.
The MP said that the region has a population of over 300 million saying that Kenyan traders and especially manufacturers can exploit the market to expand their businesses.
Karobia said that the member states have already created a conducive environment for businesses to thrive citing the creation of laws and removal of non-tariff barriers for ease of doing business.
The MP at the same time called on entrepreneurs to focus on creating and developing digital products saying that it is where the world is heading.
He quipped that about 70 per cent of the world’s wealthiest individuals have ventured into digital products that are in line with 21st-century demands.
Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi who had accompanied the lawmakers at the forum challenged youths to exploit opportunities in the digital workspace including investing in digital currencies.
In the same breath, Itumbi vowed to challenge the State to allow World Coin back into the country noting that it will be of high value soon.
On their part, students vowed to pursue opportunities in the technology world to better their lives.
