In an effort to leverage technology , Multi Choice Kenya has lunched the first online streaming service for Gotv subscribers.

Multi Choice says the move is aimed at ensuring their customers enjoy legal streams at an affordable price and also aligning their services with the changing preferences of consumers.

The surge in unauthorised streaming, however, is posing a major hurdle to the multi-billion-dollar creative industry in Kenya, which they say needs to be addressed.

The app will allow customers to set up individual profiles for a personalised viewing experience as per their GOtv packages (Supa Plus, Supa Max, Plus, and Lite) and watch their favourite shows and movies at their convenience or download content for offline viewing.

To access this service, customers need to have a GOtv subscription, a compatible device, a MultiChoice ID, and an internet connection.

While anyone can download and use the GOtv Stream App, only GOtv subscribers can enjoy live TV channels and Catch-Up content linked to their specific package.

Users will be able to link up to four devices with their GOtv Stream App account, but streaming will only be possible on one device at a time.

The GOtv Stream App will be accessible on a variety of devices, including iOS and Android devices.

“This is an important milestone in our quest to continue harnessing the power of technology and innovation to drive customer satisfaction and ensure that customers continue to enjoy an unmatched viewing experience,” said Nzola Miranda, Managing Director of MultiChoice Kenya.

“We are in the festive season, and what better way to provide a unique experience for our customers to catch their favourite shows through a different experience? With unparalleled content diversity, we are revolutionising the way our customers consume content in the country.

As Kenya’s leading storyteller, we are leading the way in embracing cutting-edge streaming technology to deliver a seamless and immersive personalised viewing experience for our customers,” noted Mr. Miranda.

Customers will be able to download up to 25 videos at once with the new app, and they will have 30 days to view the content before it expires.

The downloaded material expires after 48 hours of viewing.

In order to guarantee a secure and age-appropriate viewing experience, customers will also be able to manage and customise parental controls for children’s profiles using the app.

With greater flexibility and convenience for consuming content, the GOtv Stream App represents a substantial advancement in giving consumers more control over their entertainment experience.

At the same time Multichoice Kenya has caaled on the Kenya Copyright Board to crack down on illegal online streaming to protect legal businesses from loss of revenue.

Miranda says unauthorised streaming not only poses a challenge to the media industry but also jeopardises the livelihoods of content.
